The New face of Art!

This year 7th graders are not the only new people at Gulf Shores Middle School (GSMS). We are also proud to have a brand new art teacher who was hired in summer of 2009, Mr. Austin Boyd. He graduated from The University of North Carolina in 1998, with a degree in art. Now he is married, and he has an eight-year-old son plus another little baby on the way! Other schools that he has taught art at as a substitute are Spanish Fort and Daphne High School.  Mr. Boyd has been substituting  for some time and it has inspired him to become a full time art teacher. His favorite artist is Dale Chihnly.

We asked Mr. Boyd what type of projects he has in mind for this year. He said, "We will be doing art through movement, which is doing art blindfolded or listening to music."  Some

other projects students will be doing this year are school spirit, research on the United States, pointillism, and portraits. We asked Mr. Boyd himself what his favorite art was, he said, "My favorite type of art is realism and abstract painting."

Mr. Boyd has many exciting projects and ideas for Gulf Shores Middle School (GSMS) this year. Guadalupe Meza, GSMS 7th grader said, "I like Mr. Boyd, he's really awesome! He is a good teacher too! I like him a lot!" All of his students seem very happy to be in his class. When asked, all of them said they were proud to be in his class, and think that they are lucky to have an art teacher as nice and cool as him. Welcome, Mr. Boyd! We are glad to have you and hope you have an good year at GSMS!
